The following Saturday, against LSU, Florida played Petty’s “I Won’t Back Down” in between the 3rd and 4th quarters. The stadium sing-along was a hit with fans and has become a new tradition. Because you saw what happens when a guy with few reps and no game-time experience in the Gator uniform does with this offense. Dexter was one of the few players who did not opt out and that should be appreciated. He played hard, but again, was subjected to multiple blockers because Florida lacks a second defensive tackle. Florida has had a number of helmet designs, especially early in the program's history.

Here's what Billy Napier said after early national signing day

Florida beat Utah to open the 2022 season in Billy Napier’s first game as the Gators’ head coach. Look, I think it’s going to be a really close game. I think these teams matchup really well, and I think Vegas thinks so too. When you look at the spread, it’s flirting between 2.5 and 3 points.

However, the Gators have not played a non-collegiate squad since 1945. The FAU Owls traveled to Gainesville for the first meeting between the two teams. This marked the third game of the season where the Gators faced an opponent for the first time. Tim Tebow rushed for his 20th touchdown of the season in the 2nd quarter setting a new SEC record for rushing touchdowns in a season. Tebow finished last week's game with 19 total rushing touchdowns leaving him tied with Shaun Alexander, LaBrandon Toefield, and Garrison Hearst.

The special teams chipped in with two blocked punts, and, after allowing an early touchdown, the young Gator defense shut out their opponents for the rest of the half. The University of Florida was established in Gainesville in 1906 and fielded its first official varsity football team that fall. It's a pretty simple read there, and it’s something that you can run that play times a game, if you’re running the ball, and defenses don’t have much of an answer for it. Obviously, you would love your defensive end to stay home there, but I like Richardson’s chances against 99% of defensive ends in college football. When he gets to the NFL and JJ Watt and those guys, maybe it’s a different story, but in college I like his chances against most D ends. That 3rd-quarter touchdown was the second rushing TD of the contest for Gator QB Tim Tebow and his 22nd of the year, tying the NCAA Division I-FBS record for most rushing touchdowns in a season by a quarterback.

Florida football enjoyed its first sustained success in the 1960s under head coach Ray Graves. After having appeared in only two sanctioned bowl games up to that time, Grave's Gators won four during the decade, and quarterback Steve Spurrier became the school's first Heisman Trophy winner in 1966. The University of Florida's athletic program operated with a limited budget for the first several years after its establishment in 1906. To reduce travel costs, early Florida football teams played limited slates of games, mostly against squads from nearby schools. Local scheduling resulted in the development of gridiron rivalries with several in-state private colleges, most notably Stetson, Florida Southern, and Rollins. Florida also scheduled occasional games against teams organized by local athletic clubs or nearby military bases during the first half of the 20th century, particularly during the two world wars.

The first Florida first-team All-American was end Dale Van Sickel, a member of the 1928 team. Florida's first consensus All-American was quarterback Steve Spurrier, the winner of the Heisman Trophy for the 1966 Gators. Historically, Georgia has been Florida's most hated and fierce rival. Previously known as "The World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party," and now most commonly called the "Florida–Georgia game" by Gator fans, this rivalry often decides the SEC East and has national implications.

Usually it’s about a three point homefield advantage, as far as the spread is concerned. If these were playing at a neutral site, this game is a tossup. Napier mentioned in Wednesday’s presser, they did a study on 3rd downs, and they found out that the most effective teams on 3rd downs are the ones with athletic quarterbacks. It’s a statistical fact that athletic quarterbacks are better on 3rd downs, simply because they have that option to take off and run. It’s that these defenders have to know that and have to keep an eye on that.

Vandy was the embarrassment, FSU the deflator and Oregon State the buyer’s remorse for some Gator fans. Napier finished the season with a losing record, losses to the three biggest rivals for the first time ever and a defense that statistically was the worst to ever play at UF. The Fergie Ferguson Award is given in memory of one of the University of Florida's finest athletes, Forest K. Ferguson.

Four of their bowl games were for a National Championship, with two under the Bowl Alliance and two in the Bowl Championship Series. The football program found its initial national recognition in the late 1920s and moved into a modern stadium in 1930 with 22,000 seat Florida Field, which was built just south of Fleming Field. In 1989, the name was extended to "Florida Field at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium" to honor alumnus and sports benefactor Ben Hill Griffin. In 2016, former player and coach Steve Spurrier was honored by having his name added to the name of the field; it is now officially known as "Steve Spurrier-Florida Field at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium". The facility is also commonly known as "The Swamp", a nickname that Spurrier coined in 1992, when he was Florida's head ball coach.

The defense and special teams are doing zero favors for this offense. Florida's season records are from the record books of the university's athletic association. After throwing seven interceptions in a five-game span, he has zero over his last three games. His completion percentage has improved every month, and Rodgers sees development in how he’s throwing over the middle of the field.
